Crash victim named
A 40-year-old man died following a collision in Southwell yesterday.
Mr Neil Atkins, 40, died in the collision which happened on Nottingham Road.
Police were called to the incident, involving a silver Mini Cooper, a lorry carrying horses and a silver Ford Zetec near to Nottingham Trent University's Brackenhurst campus, at about 2.20pm.
Despite the efforts of paramedics the driver of the Mini, Mr Atkins, who lived in the Newark area but was originally from Boston, Lincolnshire, died at the scene.
The occupants of the other vehicles sustained minor injuries. The horses being transported in the lorry were unharmed.
The road remained closed between Halloughton Road and Stubbins Lane for several hours.
Police are appealing for anyone who saw the collision or any of the vehicles prior to the crash to contact them.
