Newark Advertiser reader letter: Credit where due

More news, no ads

I was pleased to read that Newark MP Robert Jenrick had offered one of his homes to a refugee family fleeing the barbaric war being raged by Russia in the Ukraine.

With a £2m house in London and a £1m house in Hereford it would have been great if he had arranged for the family to live in one of them.

But no. He lets them have the house in Southwell for which he charges us, the local tax payer £25,000 per year to rent.

I am happy to contribute to the care and welfare of this family, but it would have been nice if Mr Jenrick had praised his constituents for this gesture as we are paying for it, not himself, but perhaps he is following current government policy to claim credit whether or not it is deserved. — Peter Jones, Farndon.
