Newark-woman completed London Marathon in aid of Children with Cancer charity
A Newark woman has spoken of her “unforgettable experience” of completing the London Marathon despite admitting that she was “not a runner”
Sophia Dallison, of Newark, ran in the world famous road race at the end of April in support of the Children with Cancer UK.
So far she has raised £2,800 for the charity and said that she was overwhelmed by the support she had received.
“I was so nervous on the day but more excited,” she said.
“The London Marathon was an unforgettable experience — truly a rollercoaster of emotion, grit, and community spirit.
“The heat on the day made things even more challenging than expected, but the energy from the crowd was absolutely electric and carried me through mile after mile.”
At the 19 mile mark Sophia hit a tough patch and had to have her knee strapped by the medical team, but said “there was never any question of stopping.”
She continued: “I was running for Children with Cancer UK, and that cause kept me going strong right to the finish line.
“I've raised £2800 so far! I'm so incredibly thankful for all the donations, support and acts of kindness for this cause. It's so heartwarming.
“Crossing that line was a mix of relief, pride, and overwhelming gratitude — for the support I received, for the people who donated, and for every cheer that pushed me forward. It was a day I’ll never forget.”
Sophia was also excited that she would be receiving a Guiness Worl Record certificate, after the London Marathon broke the record for the highest amount of marathon finishers.
