Cut price trim for Services
Services personnel are being offered a haircut at a snip of a price if they go to a barbers in Ollerton.
The owners of The Barber Shoppe on Forest Road are offering 25% off haircuts for people serving in the Army, the RAF or the Royal Navy.
Mrs Vicky McPartland (38) of Temple Bruer, near Welbourn, Lincolnshire, opened the shop three years ago.
She was inspired to make the gesture after the owner of the delicatessen, G.H. Porter Provisions of Bridge Street, Newark, Mr David Moore, introduced a discount to serving soldiers, sailors and airmen.
Mrs McParland said: “My parents spoke to Mr Moore and he said he had received a good response, so we thought it would be a good idea.
“They are having such a bad time in places like Afghanistan and Iraq at the moment that we thought it was the least we could do.
“We also thought it was terrible that some personnel were being attacked when wearing their uniforms in the street.
“This is a good way of showing we support them. I cannot really go to war and fight with them, so I am doing my best to help.”
She said they had had a few personnel take up the offer, and knew there were some people from the Ollerton area who were serving, but she was relying on word of mouth.
She is considering extending the offer to police officers and firefighters, who she believes also faced a difficult job.
Mrs McPartland said a basic short back and sides at the Ollerton shop is reduced from £5.90 to £4.40 if Services personnel are in their uniform, or can show their warrant card to prove they are serving.
Mrs McPartland, her parents, Mr and Mrs Peter West, and her brother, Mr Peter West junior, own shops in Newark Market Place and Sutton-in-Ashfield, where the offer also stands.
