Daredevils take on fire walk at Kelham Hall and Country Park to raise money for the Children’s Bereavement Centre

A sponsored fire walk in aid of the Children’s Bereavement Centre took place at the Kelham Hall Firework extravaganza on Saturday evening.

The rain stopped in time for the fire lighting by a director of the charity Kate Baxter and 45 minutes later, 25 brave souls walked across hot coals all to raise money for the centre.

All the participants had to attend a motivational seminar beforehand which was delivered by Scott Bell, twice holder of the Guinness World record for the greatest fire-walking distance, before taking a deep breath and walking across five metres of smouldering coals.

It raised more than £5,500 with sponsorship still coming in.

“It was an amazing experience and a fantastic night," said Rachel Wilson, fundraising manager at the centre.

"I would like to thank all 24 of my fellow walkers, most of which have never done anything like this before.

"It was a privilege to be able to participate in this fundraising event alongside them, they were all very brave and everyone worked really hard on their fundraising, raising an amazing amount of money."

Anyone interested in getting involved in the Fire Walk 2020 can contact Rachel rachel@childrensbereavementcentre to reserve a place.
