Dartchery match hits the mark
A dartchery match raised more than £300 for Ollerton’s St George’s Day celebrations.
The match was held at the Hop Pole Hotel, Ollerton.
The Hop Pole darts team took on a team of ten archers, led by Mr Len Worrell, who runs Simply Archery and is on the organising committee for St George’s Day.
The darts players played on a standard board indoors while the archers fired at a target outside. The archers won 9-1.
Mr Worrell said: “It was fantastic and everybody really enjoyed it. I was thinking of fundraising ideas for St George’s Day and I wondered if this might work, and it did.
“The result was a bit of a foregone conclusion because we were using high-tech equipment. Next time we will just use a stick and string bow and arrow.”
In total, £336 was raised, which will go towards a roundabout for children at the celebration.
Spring is the theme this year, and people will be encouraged to attend wearing Easter bonnets featuring spring flowers and vegetables.
Mr Worrell said: “People can come along with a full garden on their head if they want.”
As always, the parade on April 22 will feature a giant dragon made by Recycling Ollerton and Boughton.
There will be morris dancing, music from the Dukeries College Band and Pentacle Drummers, a duck race, and a variety of stalls and activities.
Another dartchery event could be arranged later in the year to raise money for The Poppy Appeal.
