Decision due by Newark and Sherwood District Council planning for Gypsy/Traveller pitches on Allesford Lane, Edingley
A planning application to change land in Edingley to use as a residential caravan site has been submitted and is due for decision.
The application, by the Webster family, will see four Gypsy/Traveller pitches with two caravans/mobile homes, hardstanding and construction of new access on each erected on land west of Allesford Lane.
In a statement on the the Newark and Sherwood District Council planning portal, a letter from Phillip Brown Associates on behalf of the applicant said that the development would provide the family with sufficient space in contrast to their current situation on The Seven Oaks.
Access to the site would be via a new access road from Allesford Lane, set back from the road behind hedgerows and trees, and would not “lead to the unacceptable loss or significant adverse impact on landscape character and value”:
“There are no public gypsy sites in Newark and thee can be no certainty that existing, authorised permanent pitches will be made available to my clients,” the letter said.
“The proposed development clearly accords with relevant Local Plan policies. Planning permission should, therefore, be granted without delay.”
So far, the application has received a number of comments on the planning portal in support of the plans, with residents describing the site as being “impeccably maintained” by one writer.
The Webster family were also described as “lovely people and an asset to the community” as well as “kind and helpful” in other comments.
As the development falls within flood zone 1, the Environment Agency had no fluvial flood risk concerns associated with the site, and Nottinghamshire County Council, as the Lead Local Flood Authority (LLFA), also did not respond due to the scale of this application.
Newark and Sherwood District Council’s Environmental Health said that the site operated as a recognised caravan, mobile home or park home site must hold an appropriate caravan site licence to ensure “proper health, safety and welfare standards are maintained”.
The application is due for decision in early 2025.
