A team at Bakkavor Desserts Newark has helped Barnby Road Academy build a animal habitat

Volunteers from a Newark dessert company helped school children create a sustainable animal habitat.

The Bakkavor Desserts team donated reusable items from the company and helped construct and chop logs to create a habitat for children at Barnby Road Academy to observe nature up close.

The team designed and created a bug hotel, utilising recycled pallet wood and also created a Herb garden.

The Opal Build Day project brought together Barnby Road Academy staff, parents, Bakkavor staff and food bank volunteers to create zones for the playgrounds and gardens.

This team effort will create a place for the children and community to enjoy for many years to come.

Andrjez Szokalski, general manager and operations at Bakkavor Desserts Newark said: “With the long summer ahead of us, as children look forward to their long break, its lovely to know that when they return in September they’ll have a bounty of bugs to inspect.

“At Bakkavor we value our local community and it’s important for us to involve with local schools and organisations to pull together and do something that will benefit the children at Barnby Road for years to come.”
