Developer Bildurn said to continue to be committed to finding a long-term solution for the former school site, Lilley and Stone, on London Road, Newark

Trustees said they are committed to finding a ‘long-term solution’ following the refusal of plans to build 130 homes on the former school site last year.

Developer Bildurn had proposed demolishing three buildings on the former Lilley and Stone School site on London Road in Newark and building 130 homes, as well as renovating the listed school building to bring it back into use.

A year ago, members of the Newark Town Council planning committee opposed the plans and Newark and Sherwood District Council turned down the proposal.

The developer Bildurn said that following the refusal, the trustees have been reviewing their options for the school site.

They added: “We remain committed to finding a long-term solution that benefits the community, and we are currently exploring various possibilities.

“We understand that there is significant public interest in the site’s future, and we will share updates as things progress.”

As the building remains empty and with no updates, neighbourhood police have urged parents this week to speak to their children and warn them of the risks of trespassing on the school site.

This follows a series of reports about groups involving youths breaking into the abandoned old school.
