Newark and Sherwood District Council launches photographic competition

A new photography competition has been launched to showcase the best our district has to offer.

With more access to cameras than ever before, whether through a phone, digital, or even a revival of film, budding photographers will have a chance to win a share of £400 and have their work displayed at Castle House in Newark.

Organised by Newark and Sherwood District Council, the competition is split into separate Under 17s and Open categories.

Deputy council leader, Rowan Cozens, said: “With the summer here, now is a great time to get out and about to capture the best parts of our great district.

“That’s why we are launching an exciting competition to uncover the secret talent among our residents. We have put aside a special display area in the Castle House reception to display the winning entries.

“We will pick four Under 17 winners and two from the Open category.

“We want to find pictures that really get into the heart of our wonderful district, that capture the diverse nature of it.

“That’s why we have four different categories, ‘Town Centres’ and ‘Out and About’ for our younger photographers and ‘Industrial and Architecture’ and ‘Nature and Rural’ for the Open competition.”

The competition runs until September 28, and entries can be submitted at: www.newark-sherwooddc.gov.uk/competitions/

The winners will be picked out by a panel of judges before the final images are blown up and displayed in the reception area of Castle House.
