A doctors’ surgery in Southwell has been nominated for this year’s National General Practice Awards.

Southwell Medical Centre, The Ropewalk, has been put forward for the people’s choice award.

Mr Nigel Kenward, the practice manager, said: "We are pleased to be nominated.

"It has been an especially tough winter but the staff and doctors have continued to work extremely hard.

"Despite all their troubles, when people see our staff they feel cared for.

"It is a credit to our staff who go above and beyond the call of duty."

The list of practices nominated for the people’s choice award will be narrowed down to a shortlist by public vote, ahead of a ceremony in London to mark the tenth anniversary of the awards.

Mr Kenward said: "In my six years at the centre we have not been nominated for an award.

"We would be thrilled if we won."

Voting closes on August 10.
