Reader’s Letters: Don’t waste our money on stones
An open letter to Paul Peacock: As expected, I am completely against the spending of £80,000 by Newark and Sherwood District Council on those ridiculous Kiddey Stones project outside the council offices at Castle House, Newark.
Increasing council tax and stretching the budget to accommodate such a frivolous project seems absurd.
Have you, by any chance, reached out to the Labour lord who has generously given more than £500,000 over the years, recently spending thousands on clothes, a personal shopper, and even sunglasses for the Prime Minister’s wife, Victoria Starmer.
If he’s so happy to throw money at fashion statements, perhaps he'd be willing to finance your vanity project as well?
After all, his generosity seems better suited for stones than increasing taxes for hard-working citizens like us.
While you’re at it, remind him that securing a pass at the district council won't be part of the deal—no “passes for glasses” business here!
I eagerly await your reply and hope you can get your donor's pockets to pay.
It would certainly save us from shouldering the £80,000 burden for decorative rocks. — Johno Lee, Newark and Sherwood district councillor.
