Doubts cast on tip future
Confusion remains over the future of Fiskerton Household Waste Recycling Centre.
Officers at Nottinghamshire County Council claim the centre is due to close in 2012 as part of an application for a new centre at Newark.
However, Southwell’s county councillor, Mr Bruce Laughton, believes its long-term future is now more secure.
He claims because the council has decided to close centres at Gedling, Sutton-in-Ashfield and Stapleford, the Fiskerton centre had avoided closure and was likely to stay open past 2012.
He said: “Fiskerton tip has been taken off any imminent danger of closure list as far as household waste recycling centres are concerned."
A county council spokesman said the Fiskerton centre was due to close in 2012 and the Newark site would be the alternative, if plans were approved, along with centres at Bilsthorpe and Calverton.
