Election results now in
All the Nottinghamshire County Council election results for the Advertiser area are now in.
Mr Bruce Laughton (Con) has won the Southwell and Caunton seat with a 484 majority over Mr Peter Harris (Lib Dem).
More than half the ward turned out to vote.
Mr Peter Prebble (Con) has retained his Newark East seat with 1,267 votes.
Ollerton’s Mrs Stella Smedley is the only Labour councillor in the Newark and Sherwood division to retain her seat.
Her winning margin was narrow, though, with a 160-vote majority over Mrs Mary Brown (Con).
Mr Keith Girling (Con) has won a four-way competition for the Newark West seat.
He retained the seat with 980 votes ahead of Mrs Gill Dawn (Ind) with 483 - increasing his majority by 354 votes.
There was a 50% turnout in Farnsfield and Lowdham, where Mr Andy Stewart (Con) retained his seat with a massive 2,454 majority.
In Collingham Mr Vincent Dobson (Con) has also held, as has Mrs Sue Saddington (Con) in the Farndon and Muskham ward.
Mr Keith Walker (Con) has successfully held his Balderton seat, which was the first Newark and Sherwood result to come through.
Mr Walker (69) said he was pleased to retain his seat, especially as it was with an increased majority from 341 four years ago to 842.
"I think it is the case that people have judged me on my work over the past four years and not just over the past six weeks," he said.
Mr Walker hoped that the Conservatives would win control of County Hall, and with a large majority.
The first seat in Newark and Sherwood to swing was Blidworth, where Mr Geoff Merry (Ind) has taken Mrs Yvonne Woodhead’s (Lab) seat with a 50-vote majority.
There was another Labour to Independent swing in Rufford, where previous holder Mr Andrew Freeman (Lab) was beaten into third place. Mr Les Ward (Ind) won Mr Freeman’s seat.
Mr John Hempsall (Con) has retained his Tuxford seat with a 1,601 majority.
In Bingham, Mr Martin Suthers (Con) has retained his seat with a 813 majority over former mayor Mr George Davidson (Lib Dem).
Conservative group leader Mrs Kay Cutts has held her Radcliffe seat with a 1,940 majority.
Mr Richard Butler (Con) has also retained his Cotgrave seat.
Counting at Kelham Hall for the Newark and Sherwood division had been delayed because there was a particularly high turnout in Southwell and Lowdham.
It is not yet known who has gained overall control of the council as not all the seats in the county have been returned.
