Election to be held for three town council positions

By Advertiser Reporter

Voters will head to the polls in Bingham on Thursday to elect three town councillors.

The positions were left vacant by the resignations of deputy mayor Mrs Tracey Kerry; planning committee chairman Kevin Hayes-Heath; and Elizabeth Hutchison, who were all independent councillors.

Voters will elect two councillors for the west ward and one for the east.

Candidates for the west ward are: Jane Best, of Wychwood Road, Bingham (Conservative); Tony Wallace, of Meadowsweet Hill, Bingham (Labour); and Gareth Williams, of Stainmore Grove, Bingham (Conservative).

Candidates for the east ward are Karen Coombes, of Belvoir Vale Grove, Bingham (Labour); and Jim Costello, of Sorrel Drive, Bingham (Conservative).

By-elections to fill two further vacancies left by the resignations of the mayor, Mr Alan Harvey, and councillor Alison Langford, could be held on December 14, if they are contested.

Prospective candidates have until 4pm on Friday to submit their nomination.
