Even with the latest restrictions of lockdown there are still barefaced shoppers in Sainsburys, Balderton.

When challenged about not wearing a mask they either claim exemption through an invisible disability and/or try to deflect the accusation by questioning my authority, usually aggressively.

No, I do not have authority. I am acting purely in self-defence as a potential victim.

I asked staff why they allowed these people into the shop. Sure, the police can arrest and fine offenders but staff have total responsibility into who they allow into their store and who they serve.

I understand the staff’s dilemma.

They are not employed to bar entry physically. It is not in their job description and usually not in their physical make up. In which case they should hire a doorman or call the police.

The staff had a “don’t rock the boat” attitude so I cannot see the situation improving any time soon. — S. WILLIAMS, Balderton, via email.
