Enjoy a marvellous month of events at Sherwood Forest from robin Hood tours, archery, and stargazing, to nature walks, artist workshops and Easter weekend craft events
There is a lot of fun to be had at Sherwood Forest this month as events return after a short winter break.
Visitors can enjoy everything from an Easter craft fair or an enchanting fairytale trail, to archery beneath the mighty Major Oak.
It all starts with the return of the Myths and Legends tour, led by the Sheriff of Nottingham’s master at arms, William de Tankerville, as he donss his chainmail in the search for Robin Hood at 1pm on Saturday, March 2 and again on March 23 at the same time.
On the evening of March 2, at 7pm, there will be a stargazing night with the Mansfield and Sutton Astronomical Society providing a fascinating insight of the night sky.
For Mother’s Day, on Sunday, March 10, it’s time to get creative as Edwinstowe artist David Evans leads a watercolour painting workshop at 10.30am, teaching the techniques and helping participants to take inspiration from the woodland surroundings.
The Sheriff of Nottingham is also back to offer a guided storytelling tour about of the legends of Sherwood on Saturday, March 17, at 1pm.
Then on Saturday, March 23, a trail led by experts will go in search of Sherwood’s woodpeckers at 9am.
This Woodpecker Walk will take participants to parts of the forest which are favoured by great spotted, lesser spotted and green woodpeckers, the UK’s three resident woodpecker species, all of which are found in the forest.

For Easter Weekend, from Friday, March 29 to Sunday, March 31, there will be plenty to enjoy from have-a-go archery, with instruction and top tips from The Sherwood Outlaws, to the Artisans of Sherwood Craft Fair on Easter Sunday where makers and traders will be selling a host of unique and unusual gifts.
The creatively doesn’t stop there as on Saturday, March 30, at 10.30am, artist Sarah Brabbin will lead an Easter clay creations workshop making bunny rabbit sculptures – ideal for the Easter weekend.
On Easter Sunday, at 11am, everyone’s favourite monk Friar Tuck will lead a tour through the forest, and throughout the holiday families can follow the clues along the the enchanted ‘Fairytale Trail’.
