Enjoying fruits of success
Children enjoyed a strawberry tea to mark their school receiving an environmental award for a second time.
Robert Miles Junior School, Bingham, was presented with the Eco-Schools Green Flag Award by Keep Britain Tidy.
As well as the strawberry tea, pupils marked the occasion with graffiti art, music, and a wildlife garden tour.
The head, Mr Rob Gilbey, said the award recognised all the work done by staff and pupils over five years.
He said the school’s business manager, Mrs Elizabeth Overvoorde, and pupils were the driving force behind the initiative.
The school received £500 from Nottinghamshire County Council’s cabinet member for environment and sustainability, Mr Richard Butler, which will be put towards more environmental improvements.
To get the Green Flag, schools must cover environmental issues in at least three subjects, work on at least three environmental projects, have little or no litter, and have good internal and external communications about environmental matters.
