Environment Agency issues amber flood alert for River Trent from Cromwell Weir to Gainsborough, with Rockley and Ollerton also at risk

A flood alert has been issued by the Environment Agency in the north of the Newark area until tonight (Thursday).

The Environment Agency has also issued an amber flood alert for River Trent from Cromwell Weir to Gainsborough, as river levels are rising at the Torksey river gauge as a result of heavy rainfall.

Heavy rain may result in some disruption during the day, with some communities possibly cut off by flooded roads, and spray and flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures.

Flooding of roads and farmland is possible, with areas most at risk named as Church Laneham to Rampton Road, and areas around Rockley and Ollerton are also showing as possible areas for flooding.

A yellow weather warning of further heavy rainfall is forecast today until tomorrow (Friday), and river levels are set to remain high.

The Environment Agency is “closely monitoring the situation”, and a further update will be issued tomorrow.

“Please avoid using low-lying footpaths near local watercourses and plan driving routes to avoid low-lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded,” a spokesman said.

Nottinghamshire County Council has also issued the below advice:

Here are some tips for staying safe in flooding:
