Newark's Gallery 6, Stodman Street, exhibits Landscapes by Sarah Watson
An artist who used the summer months and beautiful views to channel her emotion will have her works of art showcased in Newark.
Finally able to explore and express herself properly for the first time since coronavirus, oil painter Sarah Watson has travelled across the UK and beyond to do just that — in her passion for painting.
Sarah, who featured on Sky Arts’ Landscape Artist Of The Year in 2016, works almost exclusively outside, to transform her immediate emotional response to the surrounding countryside into abstract expressive marks and colour.
Capturing the coastal drama of the Gower Peninsula in Wales, the beauty of North Yorkshire, the rolling hills of the Lincolnshire Wolds (pictured) and the majesty of the western Lake District — she is enthralled in the landscapes’ constantly-changing colours and endless drama of the skies.
“I like to demonstrate what I’m feeling through my marks and colours,” said Sarah. “My work is very expressive and maybe, sometimes, a bit bonkers.
“Whatever feelings arise when I’m outside, they are put in oils — most feelings are joyful but you also get some moody and frantic.”
In her exhibition, Landscapes, Sarah exclusively brings us her work painted over the summer months this year.
Landscapes will be shown at Gallery 6, Stodman Street, until October 30.
