This year’s plays will be Shakespeare’s ever-popular comedy A Midsummer Night’s Dream (June and July), George Farquhar’s The Recruiting Officer (June and August) and Jane Austen’s Sense and Sensibility (July and August), while Tolethorpe Youth Drama will perform A Monster Calls in July.

Described by The Sunday Times as “One of the finest things to do this summer” and The Stage as “One of England’s premier alfresco theatre venues” it really is an experience not to be missed.

The theatre is situated in the grounds of historic Tolethorpe Hall, surrounded by wonderful Rutland countryside.

The auditorium faces an open air stage set within an idyllic woodland glade. The permanent canopy above the audience means no performance is ever cancelled because of inclement weather.

Visitors can enjoy their own picnic in the grounds beforehand to make a real event of it.

There is also a theatre bar for enjoying pre-performance and interval drinks, and a spacious orangery where interval coffee is served.
