Hundreds of people lined the streets of Ollerton for the Christmas market and lights switch-on.

Several events along Sherwood Avenue marked the start of the festive season on Friday, including an X-Factor style competition, a continental market, fairground rides, and choir performances outside the town hall.

Santa Claus switched on the lights.

The Mayor of Ollerton and Boughton, Mr Jason Ferguson, said the fair was more about Christmas than commercial gain.

He said: “The turnout of people on the streets was incredible and, despite the recession, we had a record amount of market traders.

“The atmosphere around the streets was really nice.”

The event was organised by Ollerton and Boughton Town Council.

Mr Ferguson thanked the town clerk, deputy town clerk and volunteers for their efforts.
