Family feel to album
A former pupil at the Minster School, Southwell, will release her debut album next month.
Miss Becky Syson (26) of Broomfield Lane, Farnsfield, has written all the tracks on her album, Holland, which has been produced by her brother Mr Lance Syson (23).
The title stands for Hope Our Love Lasts And Never Dies. Miss Syson said her grandfather, Mr Maurice Syson, used the acronym in love letters and cards to his wife.
Miss Syson studied international planning at Plymouth University before moving back to the family home in Farnsfield to start a career in music.
“My parents sing and my brother sings and I started when I was really young,” she said.
“Once I had finished my degree I decided I wanted to do something creative.”
Miss Syson plays piano and acoustic guitar and sings lead vocals on the album.
Her brother plays the drums, bass guitar and lead guitar and provides backing vocals.
“We recorded the album in our garage and my brother has been doing the technical stuff like mixing it and producing it,” said Miss Syson.
“I’ve done a lot of the art for the album and now it is recorded we are sending it off to a production company who will print off 1,000 copies which saved us having to do it all ourselves.”
Miss Syson’s album is a mixture of rock and acoustic music and features another former Minster School pupil, Miss Sarah Gill (25) of London, who plays cello.
“All my family and friends helped a lot by lending us equipment, giving us advice,” said Miss Syson.
“It was hard work producing the album because it takes up so much time getting everything exactly as you want it.
“When you buy a CD of a band it sounds perfect and you don’t really understand the time and effort that goes into.
“Even simple things like getting the right microphone can make a big difference to the sound quality.”

The album will be launched at The Maze in Nottingham on May 4.
