Family fun day and scarecrow competition organised by Fernwood Parish Council
A village hall was a hive of activity over the weekend as families gather for a fantastic family fun day.
Organised by Fernwood Parish Council, and taking place at the Village Hall, even a brief downpour didn’t put a dampener on celebrations.
There was a wide selection of local stalls and food, and a tombola supported by One Stop.
Children’s entertainment included balloon modelling, creative crafts, colourful face painting, and bouncy castle, while Alexa Hawksworth and Henry George provided live musical entertainment.
Council chairman, Neill Mison, said “The event was a huge success, drawing a brilliant turnout of local residents and families.
“We’re grateful to all the staff and local business who helped support the event and look forward to putting on even more great events for the residents of Fernwood.”
A highlight of the day was the return of the scarecrow competition, which featured some of the best and most creative entries they has ever seen.
Among the favourite were a scarecrow mum enjoying a spa which brought the laughs with the hope it “inspires other Mummy’s to take a break too”, while another scarecrow was inspired by a recent family strawberry picking trip.
But the competition was won by a creative scene featuring a crew of pirate scarecrow scen on their very own pirate ship, complete with a plank to walk.
Fernwood Parish Council plan to hold another event later this summer to mark the official opening of the villages brand-new play park, which is being funded by the Parish Council and Community Infrastructure Levy.
