HUNDREDS of pounds have been raised as a thank you to Southwell's First Responders who helped their loved one.
Emily Flavell and her mum Jane Markham, from Kelham, have managed to raise over £800 for Southwell Community First Responders in memory of her dad Des Markham, who received fantastic care before he died.
Des first suffered a silent heart attack back in 2014, and then in February this year fell ill again with what the family thought was flu, until he collapsed and became unresponsive. Jane called 999 and a First Responder from the Southwell responders called Malcolm was the first on the scene, and was clear that Des needed help immediately.
Des was rushed to hospital where he was diagnosed with pneumonia. He was in hospital for 10 days before he suffered another heart attack brought on by the pneumonia and sadly passed away on March 5.
So Emily, who lives in West Bridgford, and Jane decided to raise money for Southwell First Responders as a thank you for everything Malcolm did for Des.
She said: "They really are unsung heroes, and they are voluntary as well which is amazing when you consider how much time they give up to do this."
Emily set up a JustGiving site and shared it into some of the Facebook groups for mums that she was a member of, and before long the total on the page had reached £820.
Emily and Jane presented the cheque to Southwell Community First Responders on Tuesday, and were emotionally reunited with Malcolm. Emily added: "It was emotional but lovely to see him and say thank you in person."
