You can still get your fix of this year's Southwell Music Festival despite coronavirus
Fans who are going to miss out on this year’s Southwell Music Festival can still get their musical fix.
Organisers have taken the decision to cancel August’s festival because of the coronavirus outbreak.
Supporters have pledged more than £5,000 to a fundraising campaign to cover costs — halfway towards the goal.
Festival director Marcus Farnsworth said: “We are hugely disappointed that we are unable to hold a festival this year, but we are doing all we can to make sure that we return in 2021 with renewed strength and purpose and a bucket load of great music.”
To remind people of what they are missing, organisers have decided to upload videos of previous festival performances to its website.
The opening choice is a performance from the very first concert at the first festival in 2014 — Mendelssohn’s Octet For Strings.
Marcus said: “Although we cannot perform for you in Southwell, we thought this might be a good opportunity to take a walk down memory lane.
“This 2014 performance is memorable for several reasons. I am amazed that we managed to attract such a fantastic team of chamber musicians for our very first festival.
“All of the players in this video have returned to subsequent festivals.”
