Feathered friends welcomed by children at Balderton Village Day Nursery

Nursery children welcomed five chicks after incubating them for three weeks.

Youngsters at Balderton Village Day Nursery, on London Road, kept an eye on the chicks as they hatched a few days early.

Rachel Yarnell, deputy manager, said: “It was amazing for the children to watch them all hatch, after a few days we were able to handle them with a little help.

“The chicks are a mix of colours as we had three different types of egg and now that they have hatched we will be handling them a lot more.

“We also have the challenge of naming them and the children have been coming in with ideas for names.

“Once we have a good selection we will be having our own in-house ballot, with our own little voting slips.

“So far some of the suggestions include Peanut, Daffodil, Jonny and Fruit Shoot.

“We have had a great turnout this year, it is the first time in a long time that we have had so many hatch.”
