REVIEW: White Post Farm, in Farnsfield, becomes Light Post Farm in time for Christmas
Christmas officially starts, in my opinion, at the end of November around the 20th.
So a trip to White Post Farm — or Light Post Farm as it has now become for the festive season — with my children last night (Thursday) couldn’t have come at a better time.
Light Post Farm has seen the family farm in Farnsfield teaming up with Gloworm Festival to present this 1km trail, incorporating some beautiful installations.
When me and my children — Isla, 9, and Rory, 6 — arrived at the gate on a bitterly cold night, we were straight-away introduced to a very strategically placed staff member selling various glow-in-the-dark paraphernalia including glow sticks, glasses, headbands, wands, and so on, and of course, we had to buy star wands.
Our first stop on the trail was the funky Disco Duck Pond where the kids enjoyed a boogie, followed by the very pretty Wishing Tree, and the kids especially loved the beautiful light tunnels, especially the 60m long illuminated Triangle Tunnel Tree and Tunnel O Light, as well as the lit-up reindeer.
After we made our way down to the playground which had been transformed into Merv’s Lit Up Look Out, we were very grateful to head inside where we met the animals inside the Silver Barn — including, to the kids’ delight, two reindeer who had come to visit — as well as the impressive illuminated Advent Calendar designed by art students from Nottingham College.
After having a go on the indoor tobogganing slope, we made our way into the beautifully festive Mini Christmas Market, where we warmed up with hot chocolate. The very friendly staff member assured us that it would be the best hot chocolate we’d ever had — and he was right! It was absolutely delicious, certainly one of the best I’ve ever tasted
Had we had more time (it was well past their bedtime by this point!) we would have been able to decorate some gingerbread and make reindeer dust.
All in all, Light Post Farm is the perfect (and very reasonably priced) way to kick-start your festive season, my children both loved it (My heart melted when Rory said “That was the best EVER mummy!”) and I’d highly recommend it for families looking to get their Christmas on.
Light Post Farm is now open for bookings for timed slots from 5pm every Thursday to Sunday up until 22 December — tickets at £12 per person and £45 for families.
