Festive feel

The switch-on of Newark’s Christmas lights, the Christmas tree festival in the parish church and the carol singing in the Market Place on Sunday have all helped provide a real festive feel to the town centre this year.

I know times are hard, but there is still some joy to be found at this time.

The lights switch-on in particular, which was attended by so many people, showed there are plenty who enjoy a good community event.

It made full use of the space available in the Market Place.

It also illustrated what a great resource, sadly under-used, the Market Place is. Much more should be made of it.
