Free The Trees Celebration under trees next to Newark Library to celebrate council decision to scrap carpark plans
A victory party to celebrate a decision to save four age-old trees in Newark has been organised.
Protect Newark's Green Spaces has arranged the Free The Trees Celebration under the trees on green space next to Newark Library.
It comes after a decision by Newark and Sherwood District Council to listen to the community and not extend London Road carpark — which would have meant the trees being felled.
The decision followed months of campaigning to keep the land as open green space.
"The moment you’ve all been waiting for," wrote Protect Newark's Green Spaces on Facebook.
"We are pleased to announce our new date to celebrate of our community victory.
"This time it’ll have a festive twist with good old-fashioned mince pies, mulled wine and live performers."
The event is taking place at the Newark Library Gardens on Saturday from noon to 2pm.
