Southwell to host Christmas late night shopping and market in town centre
A town’s annual late-night festive shopping experience is to return again this week.
Southwell’s range of independent shops will keep their doors open later this Thursday, November 28, to showcase their wares, while a number of traders, community groups, and charities will also have stalls selling gifts, food and crafts on the market square.
Taking place from 4pm to 9pm, the event will also see the town’s Christmas lights, on the market square tree, switched on at 4.45pm as part of the festivities.
The event is set to offer residents and visitors the perfect opportunity to pick up a present and enjoy a festive treat from a selection of hot food vendors while supporting the town’s businesses.
Road closures will be in place on both King Street and Queen Street from 2pm to allow for the event to be set up and for shoppers to safely browse, as well as allowing for more stalls to be set up along the laybys.
Kings Court will also be closed to vehicles from 2pm.
There will also be a Santa’s Grotto, run by Lowe’s Wong PTA, in the Bull Yard from 4pm to 8pm, elves on stilts, and a Christmas selfie station.
There will be a small charge applicable for the grotto.
Entertainment will come from Hot Dogs Brass Band, and Bleasby, Lowes Wong Infants, Holy Trinity, Halam and Lowes Wong Junior schools’ choirs on stage in the market square.
Southwell Town Council, which organises the event, encourages attendees to walk to the event where possible due to road closures and possible congestion.
Free parking is available at the long stay car park to the rear of Souhwell Leisure Centre.
