Southwell Fire Station in Nottinghamshire encourage people to keep their doors closed when not at home or sleeping

A district fire station have posted a graphic showing the impact having doors open or closed can have on a house fire.

“We do recommend closing doors in unoccupied rooms,” said a spokesman from Southwell Fire Station.

“Although this picture is not from the UK, it clearly shows the benefits of closing doors if you can before you go to sleep or leave the property.

“Closing doors will prevent fire spread, contain deadly smoke — allowing clearer visibility and cooler temperatures for you to make your escape.

“It also presents fire and smoke damage allowing you to move back in much sooner and reduces damage costs.”
