Collingham firefighters to the rescue in flood-threatened Girton

Collingham firefighters have been out assisting people in Girton who are on a flood warning from the River Trent breaching its banks.

The crew assisted villagers by filling sandbags that were then distributed to homes.

A spokesman for the retained station said: "This is something that we don’t normally get involved with, but due to the current situation of covid and social distancing rules, meant it could be carried out more safely if we went as a crew.
