Newark Brick Show The Big Community Build to take place at Newark Town Hall Colonnades and Market Place

A town’s first-ever celebration of all things LEGO festival promises a day of creativity and fun for all ages.

The Newark Brick Show The Big Community Build is taking place on Saturday (September 7), giving people the opportunity to see fan-built LEGO models and participate in community-building activities.

From 10am until 4pm the main event will be in the Colonnade Area of the Newark Town Hall, featuring some of the finest LEGO models designed and created by Northern Brickworks members.

It is a chance to witness the creativity and skill of LEGO enthusiasts up close.

In addition to the main event, there will be a trail of LEGO animals, scaled up from their original smaller set counterparts, running until the day of the show.

Each animal, designed by former LEGO Masters winner Nate Dias, uses over 8,000 bricks to create creatures such as a ginger cat and a Westie. Hidden in eight shops around Newark town centre, each creature is accompanied by a letter.

People can take part in the competition by finding all eight letters to reveal a secret word.

The trail sheets can be collected from the venues hosting the models or at the main event in the Colonnade and the three winners of the trail will receive a small LEGO set.

Northern Brickworks, in collaboration with Newark Town Council and Newark and Sherwood District Council, have been working together to showcase the fan-built LEGO models.

David Jackson, deputy market manager at Newark Town Council, said: “We jumped at the chance to facilitate the Brick Show as we believe it has a wide audience appeal and we are excited to see such detailed LEGO craftsmanship on display.

“LEGO is one of my passions as it shows a lot of technique, skill and quite simply, pure enjoyment.

“I believe model building for all ages is a way to relax, take time away from screens and get creative. Being able to put on this free specialist event in Newark Town Centre is a great moment for me as a lover of LEGO, we can’t want to meet some of our very own budding Master Builders”.

LEGO lovers will have the chance to buy new and retired LEGO sets as well as a chance to build the tallest tower, enter the spot minifig competition and a free build area where they can build anything they fancy.

There will be thirteen exhibitors showcasing their skills by displaying custom builds/Lego models for everyone to enjoy looking at.

Nate from Northern Brickworks elaborated on their involvement: “We have been running for over ten years now, and in that time, we have exhibited to hundreds of thousands of people whilst raising thousands of pounds for charities too.”
