The Castle Barge, moored next to Trent Bridge in Newark, is to be closed for up to six weeks because the boat needs re-plating

After more than 30 years of providing a drink on the wharf, Newark’s floating pub is in need of some TLC and will be closed for a while.

The Castle Barge, moored on the River Trent next to Trent Bridge, is to be closed from Monday for up to six weeks because the boat’s bottom needs to be re-plated and then re-painted.

Owner Frank Dyson said: “It was last re-plated 30 years ago when we took it to be dry docked at Newark, but that’s no longer available so we will be taking it up to Hull by river.
