Environment Agency issues flood alerts for River Witham and its tributaries from Claypole to Lincoln, the River Trent from Cromwell Weir to Gainsborough and the River Maun around the Sherwood Forest Caravan Park at Clipstone, Edwinstowe and Ollerton

Heavy rain in the area has seen several flood alerts issued for the Newark and surrounding areas today (Monday).

The Environment Agency has issued flood alerts for the River Witham and its tributaries from Claypole to Lincoln, as well as River Trent from Cromwell Weir to Gainsborough and the River Maun.

Areas most at risk along the Maun include low-lying agricultural land and roads around the Sherwood Forest Caravan Park at Clipstone, Edwinstowe, Ollerton, Whitewater Lane at Whitewater Bridge, and West Drayton.

This means that river levels are rising, leading to flooding of low-lying land and roads close to the river.

River levels are expected to remain high throughout the next few days and flooding to gardens, driveways or outhouses is possible close to the river.

An Environment Agency spokesman said: “Our forecasts indicate that flooding inside properties is not likely and therefore flood warnings are not expected to be issued.

“We are constantly monitoring river levels and have staff in the field checking for blockages and clearing weedscreens.

“Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses and plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded.”
