Flood warnings issued across Nottinghamshire




Heavy rain in the area has seen several flood warning and alerts issued for the Newark and surrounding areas today (January 6).

The Environment Agency has issued flood alerts for River Witham and its tributaries, River Trent tributaries in Nottinghamshire, Foston Beck, River Smite and River Devon.

Lowdham Grange

River levels are rising at the Lowdham Grange river gauge and consequently, flooding is imminent with areas most at risk are Lowdham Main Street, and Station Road, including Merevale, and Limetree Gardens.

Further heavy rainfall is forecast over the next 12 hours and river levels are expected to remain high until 10pm tonight.

Areas at risk are Cocker Beck at Lowdham and properties at Lowdham around Southwell Road.

River Witham

A flood warning has been issued for areas of the River Witham.

Heavy rain is currently falling in the Upper Witham catchment and will continue throughout the morning, and the River Witham is rising and will continue to rise through the early hours of the morning.

The Environment Agency is expecting isolated properties and villages from Hougham to Claypole to be affected this morning onwards.

Low lying properties near the river on Church Street, Long Bennington are expected to be affected first.

A flood warning has also been issued for Foston Beck due to heavy rain which has caused water levels to rise, which is forecast to continue to rise through the early hours of the morning and low lying areas near to Foston Beck are already flooded.

River Trent

River levels are forecast to rise at the Lowdham Grange river gauge as a result of heavy rainfall combined with snowmelt, and a flood warning is in place.

Areas most at risk are Lowdham Main Street, and Station Road, including Merevale, and Limetree Gardens.

The areas more at risk to be affected by the flooding of the Trent are low-lying agricultural land and roads around the tributaries of the River Trent in Nottinghamshire, the River Greet, Potwell Dyke, Dover Beck, Cocker Beck, Woodborough Brook, Ouse Dyke, Thurgarton Beck and others.

River levels are rising at the Woolsthorpe River gauge as a result of heavy rainfall.

Consequently, flooding of property, roads and farmland is possible this morning.

Areas most at risk are Bottesford, including Easthorpe, Muston, and Woolsthorpe.

River Devon and River Smite

A flood alert is also in place on the River Devon and Smite. River levels are rising at the Colston Bassett River gauge as a result of heavy rainfall and snowmelt, and flooding is possible until 11am today.

Areas most at risk are Shelton Lodge Farm and Port Grange Farm, near Thoroton and low-lying agricultural land and roads along the River Smite.

Church Gate and Bunnison Lane in Colston Bassett could be impassable, with potentially dangerous depths of flood water.

Areas around the River Devon could also be affected at Easthorpe and Bottesford, with a flood warning currently in place.

Please are urged to avoid using low-lying footpaths near local watercourses and plan driving routes to avoid low-lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded.

The Environment Agency will be monitoring river levels and provide updates.
