A food drop-off zone has been set up outside Edwinstowe Fire Station for the remainder of the coronavirus period.

Stations across the county have been delivering food parcels as part of efforts to support communities during the crisis.

Now, Edwinstowe Fire Station has created a drop-off zone outside the Mansfield road station so locals can give food donations.

Any donation is greatly appreciated, particularly tinned goods or whole meals such as big soups, stews and pies.

The food will be given to Life Springs Church, Ollerton, which distributes it to those in the community most in need.

St Mary’s Church of England Primary School, Edwinstowe, was asked to design posters advertising the initiative.

District prevention officer Michelle Fitzpatrick said: “This is a great opportunity for the service to do our bit during this difficult time.

“We have all been working together at Edwinstowe to make this foodbank possible and are really pleased with the response so far. I would like to thank the crews for their hard work and dedication as they continue to distribute food donations to the community and would also like to thank St Mary’s Church of England Primary School for getting involved in creating such wonderful artwork.”
