Foosball Premier League Newark club held a tournament at The Castle and Falcon, Newark.
A town’s first-ever professional table football league has officially joined the British Foosball Association as it celebrates tournament success.
Sports enthusiast Géza Pócsik, brought the game known as foosball to life at The Castle and Falcon, Newark, earlier this year and the team held a tournament on June 22.
The Monster Draw Your Partner tournament, which took place from 1pm until 7pm, had a two-table set up to play and practice all day and welcomed players of all generations, some of whom travelled from as far as London or Scunthorpe.
The winners of the tournament were Lauren Brady and Salvatore Bruccoleri, who secured first place; Istvan Tamas and Giuseppe Bruccoleri in second place, and Eszter Sipos and Géza Pócsik came third on the podium.
The winners for the open doubles were Salvatore Bruccoleri and Giuseppe Bruccoleri.
Organiser Géza said: “Everyone I spoke to said they enjoyed it so much as always, and they will definitely return.
“It is really something new and exciting here, and one of the best parts is that new players are coming every single time to try this game.”
Géza, originally from Hungary, decided to create the Newark foosball club as he felt a lack of opportunities to play competitively in the town when he moved to the area.
Despite the popularity and success of the event, one of the highlights of the day was the announcement that the team is now officially part of the British Foosball Association and will receive support to grow and improve the team.
The Newark club has also upgraded to a professional software Kickertool, which keeps a record of all the results and is available to everyone.
The day was described as being full of laughs, goals, and great energy all around.
