Newark FC supporter disappointed with response from Newark MP Robert Jenrick

Campaigning football fan Steve Crane said he was disappointed that Newark MP Robert Jenrick did not directly reply to his plea for help, which addressed the housing situation at the Lowfields site.

Mr Crane sent a letter to Mr Jenrick after Newark FC, the town’s highest ranked football club, was forced to leave Lowfields, Balderton, after being priced out by the landowner.

Mr Crane told the Advertiser he felt Mr Jenrick had been silent on the matter.

However, Mr Jenrick’s office said Robert had not been silent on the matter.

A spokesman said: “Mr Crane’s open letter was addressed to Robert in his capacity as Secretary of State, and requested that he intervene as Secretary of State.

“Therefore, a reply would be issued from the Ministerial office rather than his MP office, and the rules are clear that to avoid a conflict of interest, this would be addressed by one of the other ministers in his team.

“Robert sent the letter to another minister and asked for their response.

“A reply dated May 25 has now been sent to Mr Crane by the minister, Eddie Hughes MP.”
