Former Southwell Minster student now fighting pandemic on front line takes a trip back to school

A former student, who has been fighting the pandemic on the front line, took time out to inspire pupils.

Sam Barnes who left Southwell Minster’s sixth form in 2013, returned for an online session as Doctor Sam, of Leicester General Hospital.

Ben Chaloner, the school’s head, said: “Sam has been very successful and was working in treating Parkinson’s, as well as being a fellow teacher at the University of Leicester.

“For the past several weeks, Sam has redeployed and has been working on the frontline, constantly kitted out in PPE to treat covid-19 patients in intensive care.

“As if we weren’t already proud of Sam, he took time out of his schedule to deliver a teams presentation for our year 12 students who are considering a future career in medicine.”
