Former Wetherspoon’s pub, The Sir John Arderne, sold to private buyer after being withdrawn from SDL Property Auctions listings

A former Wetherspoon’s pub in Newark has now sold, more than a year after it closed.

The national pub chain pulled out of Newark in August 2023, closing The Sir John Arderne and leaving the Grade II listed building in the Market Place vacant and boarded up.

The building was originally entered into an auction in September, through SDL Property Auctions, but the lot was removed due to a lack of interest.

It was then due to appear at another auction today, with a guide price of between £225,000 and £275,000.

However, the building was taken off of the listings as it had been sold prior to the auction taking place.

As the sale was private, the auction house could not disclose the identity of the buyer or the exact price of sale.

Details about any future use will not be known until the new owner submits a public planning application for the building.

What would you like to see done with the building? Let us know.
