Forum works well
A forum set up by Southwell Town Council as a way for residents to express opinions about the town is proving successful, according to its chairman.
The chairman of Southwell Town Forum, Mr Peter Harris, said the forum allowed residents to comment without attending more formal town council meetings.
The town forum takes place every two months. Those attending sit around a table and everyone is free to make comments, unlike at town council meetings where standing orders are in place that forbid the public from addressing the meeting unless given permission by the council.
Speaking at a meeting of Southwell Town Council, Mr Harris said the forum was looking at ways to improve and had created a terms of reference.
He said: “We wish to continue to expand the membership of the forum so that residents can bring matters of concern for review by the forum."
