Newark police arrests three suspects and recovers four stolen motorbikes
Over two night shifts, officers arrested three suspects and succeeded in recovering four stolen motorbikes.
Newark police rota three, rounded off with two night patrols around the area targeting motorbike thieves, supported by roads policing, the drone unit and also the dog units.
Following calls from the public on Tuesday night (May 6), officers located a moped which failed to stop for police.
A short while later, the bike was sighted again entering the sustrans track before both the rider and pillion passenger were surrounded by the teams and arrested. The stolen bike was recovered.
On Wednesday night (May 7), officers received a call from a distressed member of the public reporting they had just had their bike stolen.
With the assistance of police detective Seth and his handler, officers detained a suspect who was arrested and remains in custody with enquiries ongoing.
During the incident, the offenders left one bike behind at the scene, which was reported stolen from the Newark area a week ago and has since been recovered.
The drone unit has then joined the search with two further motorbikes bikes being located, both of which were showing as stolen.
A police spokesperson said: “We are aware that this is a problem affecting the local community and we are working hard to combat it and identify those responsible.
