Fourth Strawberry Ball fundraiser to take place at Newark Showground for breast cancer treatment
An event which raises money for breast cancer treatment will be taking place in Newark again this year.
The fourth Strawberry Ball will be on Saturday, March 12, with proceeds donated to The Breast Institute at City Hospital in Nottingham.
The ball has been organised by Paula Routledge and a group of friends, who fundraise for the institute throughout the year.
“Between our friendship group, we’ve lost quite a few close friends to breast cancer,” said Paula, who own’s Floral Media in Caunton.
“We want to keep raising money to buy equipment to improve the treatment of it if we can.”
The first Strawberry Ball was held in 2012 and raised money for a breast screening unit at Newark Hospital, which is still used today.
The group have raised around £50,000 over the last two years and hope to have doubled that by the end of the ball.
To help with the fundraising efforts, several members cycled from Bangor in Wales to Wellow near Ollerton in the Summer.
Paula promises that this year’s Strawberry Ball at the Newark Showground will be an event like no other.
Entertainment is set to be provided by several of the group’s members, who performed the Full Monty last time.
However, Paula is keeping the finer details of this year’s event under wraps.
“This time, nobody is getting their clothes off! It’s a surprise for the audience.”
There will also be an exciting auction and various other opportunities for attendees to donate money.
All tickets are now sold out.
