The Governors House, Stodman Street, launches free community hub to support creativity and connection in Newark

A historic building turned bustling town centre café has announced the launch of a brand-new free of charge community space.

The Governors House, on Stodman Street, Newark, has launched a new community hub, which will offer space for local people to host workshops, talks, and meetings without the burden of venue hire fees.

Tanith Wesson, business owner of The Governors House, created the project with a vision to provide a welcoming space for creativity, collaboration, and learning — while removing financial barriers for those who wish to share their skills, passions, and voices with others.

“The Governors House has always been about bringing people together,” said Tanith.

“I wanted to create a space where anyone, regardless of income, could host something meaningful for the community, whether it’s an art group, wellbeing talk, support meeting, or creative workshop, everyone is welcome.”

In the heart of Newark, The Governors House is a vibrant landmark where visitors can tuck in to homemade cakes and scones, freshly ground coffee, and loose-leaf teas while experiencing the unique character of the notable historic building.

The new Community Hub is ready to welcome residents, groups, and creatives who wish to use the space for free.

Inquiries for use of the new community hub are invited from anyone who would like to host an event, share a skill, or support this compassionate community project — whether residents, groups, or creatives.
