Free school concern

By Advertiser Reporter

I NOTE that another school year has begun with more pupils attending the Suthers Free School housed in temporary classrooms on a school site in Bingham.

My concern is that there is no sign of any construction work on the proposed site at Fernwood, which means that there will at least another 18 months before the buildings will be available.

Can this really be conducive to high quality education for the needs of today or will the school building never happen?

Given that the school managers have a funding model based on 250 sixth formers I do have real worries.

A sixth-form of size to be successful will need around 15 teachers to support and monitor as well as teach but the numbers of pupils in the rest of the school will not require such a high staffing level.

Something does not add up to me. — Michael J. Wilson, Queen Street, Balderton.
