Three friends are organising their own version of Race For Life to raise money for two Newark causes.

Mrs Lisa Cobb, Mrs Charlotte Smith, both of Coddington, and Mrs Sandra Pask, of Newark, work for Newark and Sherwood District Council.

The event, called the Hoscan Fun Run and Ramble, will be at Newark Sea Scouts’ headquarters in Farndon on June 27, from 2pm.

The route will be three to four miles around the river and will be open to men, women and children.

The event will be a similar format to the Race For Life and participants can run, jog or walk.

Entry will be £5. Sponsorship is optional. Proceeds will be split between Beaumond House Community Hospice and the Newark Hospital League of Friends’ £200,000 appeal for a permanent breast cancer screening unit at the hospital.

Last month, it was announced the female-only Race For Life will not be held in Newark this year because organisers want to focus on bigger events nearby.

Entry forms are available from the hospice’s fundraising office on 01636 610556.
