Publisher La Jolie Ronde Languages for Children, based on Long Acre, Bingham, is finalist in Club Hub Children’s Activity Awards 2021
A languages publisher has made it to the finals in a national children’s education awards, beating thousands of others along the way.
La Jolie Ronde Languages for Children, based on Long Acre, Bingham, is a finalist in the Club Hub Children’s Activity Awards 2021, making the shortlist in a a hat-trick of categories — lifetime achievement, lockdown achievement and franchise of the year.
Mala Henry, marketing manager, said:“We are over the moon to have made the finals in not one but three strong categories. In particular, the lifetime achievement as this year sees La Jolie Ronde celebrating 38 years since our founder, Colette Hallam, started the business by teaching just a handful of children from her home.
“Colette, who is a French native, would teach French to her children and a few of their friends, using fun and engaging activities simply just at her kitchen table.
“Soon, word got around how much fun learning French was and Colette subsequently was approached by more and more parents wanting their children to learn a second language.
“Local primary schools also made contact wanting classes at lunchtimes and after school, so Colette developed a programme and introduced puppets plus, one or two extra French speakers were taken on board to meet the demand and that was literally the start of La Jolie Ronde Languages for Children.
“It’s astounding that today, we have over 20,000 pupils on our teaching register who are taught by our network of over 500 tutors, in schools and venues throughout the UK and Ireland. Our programmes are also used as part of the curriculum in hundreds of UK state and prep schools plus taught across the world in countries such as the US, Indonesia, Australia, South America, Africa, Egypt, United Arab Emirates, Canada and Japan.”
The national awards for activity providers are independently judged by experts and specialists.
Finalists are selected on passion, commitment to excellence, innovation, and growth of their business.
The La Jolie Ronde Programme and methodology of language includes immersion in French and Spanish from the very beginning, providing an environment and opportunity for children to learn a second language at an age when they’re most receptive.
As well as lots of repetition from week to week, the target language is introduced through fun and enjoyable games, songs, role-plays, and activities.
The winners will be announced in September.
