Residents' frustration over unkempt land near Newark Flowserve Sports and Social Club off Hawton Lane
Residents have complained about the appalling state of land next to a former popular sports and social club.
According to householders near to the entrance of Newark Flowserve Sports and Social Club off Hawton Lane, Balderton, grass has been unkempt for weeks.
Jane Watkin, who lives on Hawton Lane, said: “The state of the land down there is just appalling. It just looks terrible.
“It’s a total utter mess. The area is overgrown.
“It’s all been made worse too with the closing of the carpark with stones and rocks plied up.”
The land, which is located either side of a small stream, was sold three years ago and no longer belongs to Flowserve.
There was also an incident of fly-tipping in the small stream running alongside the driveway, however, the rubbish was later cleared by Newark and Sherwood District Council.
Flowserve was until recently home to Newark FC, but the site was sold to a developer and the club has moved away.
The Environment Agency and Trent Valley Drainage Board have responsibility for the Sodbridge Drain on site.
A spokesmand for the Environment Agency said: “Sodbridge Drain is managed jointly by the Environment Agency and Trent Valley Internal Drainage Board.
“Some recent building work has caused access issues at this location, which has meant that our usual maintenance programme has been disrupted. We are working with our partners to resolve this issue as soon as possible.”
